Purpose

This checklist is designed to ensure safety during welding operations by identifying potential hazards and implementing necessary precautions.

Instructions for Use

• Review each item before starting welding operations.
• Mark each item as complete or incomplete.
• Note any corrective actions required.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Wear flameproof gauntlet gloves and flame-retardant clothing [1].
• Use helmets or hand shields during all arc welding operations [2].
• Ensure goggles or suitable eye protection are used during gas welding [2].

Equipment and Environment

• Ensure welding cables are clear of passageways, ladders, and stairways [2].
• Secure gas cylinders upright and ensure they cannot fall or roll [3].
• Verify that the welder ground cable is attached within 1 meter of the weld area [4].
• Remove paint from surfaces to be welded to avoid toxic fumes [4].

Fire Prevention

• Remove all combustible materials from the welding area or protect them with flameproof covers [5].
• Have a fully charged fire extinguisher available [4].
• Ensure proper ventilation to prevent accumulation of toxic fumes [6].

Procedures

• Turn off the engine and remove the key before starting welding [7].
• Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal [4].
• Ensure all components are properly grounded to avoid unwanted arcs [7].
• Remove electrodes from holders when welding is suspended for a substantial period [8].

Confined Spaces

• Ensure ventilation is adequate to prevent toxic material accumulation [6].
• Station an attendant outside confined spaces to observe and assist in emergencies [8].
