OSHA regulations regarding fall protection systems and equipment are designed to prevent workplace injuries and fatalities from falls. Employers are required to provide fall protection for employees exposed to fall hazards and falling object hazards. Unless otherwise stated, fall protection and falling object protection must meet the criteria in $ 1910.29, except that personal fall protection systems must meet the criteria of $ 1910.140. This does not apply to portable ladders or when employers are inspecting, investigating, or assessing workplace conditions before or after work if fall protection systems are unavailable. Key requirements include:
- Providing and installing all required fall protection systems and falling object protection before work begins. [1] [2] [2]
[1] [3] [5] [5] Employers are also required to train employees on fall hazards, procedures to minimize hazards, and the correct use of fall protection systems, including proper techniques for hook-up, anchoring, and tie-off. [4]
Important Safety Note:
Always verify safety information with your organization's specific guidelines and local regulations.
