Class 2 circuits are a type of remote control, signaling, or power-limited circuit characterized by their usage and electrical power limitation [1]. Power for Class 2 circuits is limited either inherently or by a combination of a power source and overcurrent protection [1]. The maximum circuit voltage is 150 volts AC or DC for a Class 2 inherently limited power source, and the maximum circuit voltage is 30 volts AC and 60 volts DC for a Class 2 power source limited by overcurrent protection [1].
A Class 2 power supply unit must be durably marked where plainly visible to indicate the class of supply and its electrical rating 16, 19. Cables and conductors of Class 2 circuits may not be placed with conductors of electric light, power, Class 1, nonpower-limited fire alarm circuits unless a barrier or other equivalent form of protection against contact is employed [2].
