Mandatory PPE for safe handling and testing of post-tensioning cables includes:

• Head protection: Hard hats are essential where there is a potential for objects falling from above, bumps to the head from fixed objects, or accidental head contact with electrical hazards.
• Eye and face protection: Safety glasses or face shields should be worn to protect against foreign objects getting in the eye, such as during cutting or when working with concrete and/or harmful chemicals or when exposed to flying particles.
• Hand protection: Workers should wear the right gloves for the job, such as heavy-duty rubber gloves for concrete work, welding gloves for welding, or insulated gloves and sleeves when exposed to electrical hazards. Gloves should fit snugly.
• Foot protection: Construction workers should wear work shoes or boots with slip-resistant and puncture-resistant soles. Safety-toed footwear is necessary to prevent crushed toes when working around heavy equipment or falling objects.
• Hearing protection: Use earplugs/earmuffs in high noise work areas where chainsaws or heavy equipment are used; clean or replace earplugs regularly.
• High-visibility garments: During daylight hours, when employees' duties are performed in close proximity to moving vehicles, employees must wear a high-visibility safety vest, shirt, or jacket that is fluorescent yellow-green, fluorescent orange-red, or fluorescent red in color. During hours of darkness, employees must wear a high-visibility safety vest, shirt, or jacket designed according to ANSI/ISEA 107-1999 Class 2 specifications.
