Fall protection equipment requires regular inspection to ensure it is in good working condition. The inspections help identify any damage, wear, or defects that could compromise the safety of the equipment.

The following inspection frequencies are required:

• Before each use: Fall protection equipment should be inspected before each use. This includes checking for any signs of damage, wear, or defects on the harness, lanyard, lifeline, and other components
• Permanent anchors should be inspected by a competent person at least once a year or according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• After a fall: After a fall, all equipment used to arrest the fall must be immediately removed from service and inspected by a competent person, the manufacturer, or a professional engineer before being used again.

A written fall protection plan is required prior to using a personal fall protection system for work with a potential fall hazard of 7.5 m (25 ft.) or more. [1]
